God has a perfect plan that allows sin to be punished and us to be right with Him.

  • Romans 5:8 – but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
  • God loves us and doesn’t want us to be separated from Him, so He sent His Son Jesus to be the One to pay the punishment for our sin.
  • Jesus left heaven and came to earth as a baby.
  • He lived a perfect life, never sinning even once.
  • He allowed Himself to be put to death on a cross.
  • As He was on the cross, Jesus was being punished for sin. Not His own sin, but ours.
  • The fact that Jesus was perfect and didn’t deserve death meant that, by dying, He was able to pay for the sin of others.
  • God poured out His full judgment for sin on Jesus there, which was worse than we could ever imagine.
  • Jesus paid for all of our sin on the cross, which means that we don’t have to pay the punishment ourselves.
