It is very important that we understand what the Bible says it means to be saved.

  • Jesus died for the sins of the world, but not everyone will be saved. Something must happen in a person’s life first.
  • Romans 10:9 – because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
  • To be saved…
    • We must believe what the Bible says about Jesus. (That He is God’s Son, He died on the cross for our sins, He rose from the dead and is alive still)
    • We must repent (turn away from our sin) and follow Jesus as Lord.
  • This is more than just saying “Jesus is Lord.” For Jesus to be our Lord means that He is our boss or king.
  • That means that instead of living life for ourselves, we live our life for God, making decisions that please Him.
  • That doesn’t mean that we will be perfect. We won’t be. But it does mean that our lives look very different from the rest of the world that doesn’t follow Jesus.
  • This new/different life comes as a result of our salvation, not as a cause of it.
    • Ephesians 2:8-9 – For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, that that no one may boast.
